So initially OJB asks for $100k for "Kidney Transplant" after much scrutiny he goes on to explain $55k is or transplant and $45k is to "Maintain himself for a year" of which i still dont believe it's $55k it is probably $50k as explain by Juliet.
Let me do the maths $45k = N7.2m, 7.2m over 12months comes to 600k/mth. So basically he wants to be earning 600k a month to maintain himself. How many people earn such an amount in salary monthly. Now on to the issue of the transplant, recovery from such a procedure shouldn't take more than 8 weeks without any complications so lets say worst case scenario 12 weeks. why does he need money to maintain himself for 48 weeks(1yr) when he isn't jobless or homeless? All i see here is an opportunist trying to capitalise on his condition. That extra $45 will help another helpless patient get a transplant and save a life OJB.

This is why i've removed myself from this whole mess. There are organizations that help kidney patients such as the one this girl runs. Obviously these guys wont give you more than you need. The thought of him asking for way more money so he isnt broke is simply a WANT and not a NEED. To me, this has greed spelt all over it. Some fools are blaming this lady for no good reason. What has she said that's wrong? She simply sensitize the public about the actual cost of kidney transplant which am very sure most of u don't know Yet u call her names like she has a committed a grievous crime. Wouldn't it me more pleasing to the ear if OJB had added that he also need money for his upkeep after the treatment? Didn't u noticed a beggar with pride here? If his own child lie to him about intuition fee and he later confirm that the child increase it just to get unnecessary pocket money how would he feel? This whole thing is strange. He needs the help, but I don't know why the minute he said he has to get money for maintaining himself at home after the surgery, I just got a bit turned off by the whole thing. OJB is very lucky! The average person does not have this kind of recourse... no celebrities to make feel guilty or chide into assistance. The average person would just have to put it out there and hope for the kind, generous people in the society to help them. People should understand that things can't carry on like this. It happened to Enebeli Elebuwa, Pete Eneh and recently I heard about Peter Bunor's situation. There needs to be some kind of set up that allows people, celebrity or lay, to get the care they need whether it be an established health plan that folks can contribute to... something... Kidney disease is most often caused by High BP or related to diabetes, but can also be the result of things like strep. We need to be more aware of our diets and our lifestyles. A transplant is the best option, but quite often, a person's body will reject it and they have to either be on dialysis or hope for another donor- living or dead. This transplant does not mean that OJB is worry free. In fact, it's just the beginning of a long road and fight. I pray that this will not be OJB's portion but what if it is.... will he have to go through this whole thing of fundraising again? We surely need to do better than that. Juliet Ibrahim spoke nothing but the truth, but some of us are busy throwing insults instead of looking at the big picture and really listening to what she had to say. We are busy taking sides. To me, her only mistake is probably that instead of using social media, it may have served the purpose better to contact his people or him directly and discuss. Meanwhile, many have not donated their own small pittance because it's everyone else's responsibility and not our own. It was not an insult directed at OJB, but an honest inquiry that should have led his people to double their own efforts to make sure that they are getting the best deal for him. After all, it's people's private funds they are desirous of, since the gov't has not done their own part. This whole thing just doesn't feel right at all. I wish him the best and hope he takes good care of himself.
In raising any money the biggest issue is to get the immediate operation. Money being raised are not normally for after care purposes, simply to ensure your immediate survivial. He does not have to go to the top notch hospital where cost would be priciest, he can do thorough research and go to a hospital with good recommendations and lower rates. This is a very big surgery and there is no guarantee he will survive or that the kidney will take even under the most skillful surgeon's care.
So Juliet was correct to question the amount of the money for the actual surgery, and here OJB has confirmed that the 100k is not solely for the surgery and incidentals related to the surgery. She knew what she was talking about all along.
I hope his network of friends and family can come together to support him after the surgery. As others have said his first priority should be on survivng the surgery. Food, medication and everything must come afterward. This is where the support of the networks you have made in your life come in to play.
Let all of these entertainers who are spending money wastefully remember to invest in a comnprehensive health insurance plan. Popping bottles today, liver and kidney disease tomorrow.
