Lagos State Govt explain why they sacked 788 doctors; now willing to negotiate with them

The Lagos State Government have explained why they sacked 788 striking doctors yesterday. Their reason? The doctors embarked on an 'illegal strike' that contravened the rules guiding strikes in the state's public service.

Meanwhile the government said today that they are willing to resume negotiations with the sacked doctors, whenever they (the doctors) are ready to dialogue with them.

BreaKingNews - Due to the Sacking of all Medical doctors in all government hospitals by Gov(Emperor) Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state and the ban placed on all doctors from accepting job offers from lagos state government by Nigeria Medical Association(NMA), in a quick reaction to this and the need to save lives, Lagos state government is currently employing all traditional\herbal doctors, witchcraft doctors, sango / ifa/ ogun priests , babalawo, boka, okija priests, Magicians/soothsayers, pastors/Alfas (guaranteed dat HEALING is their calling), pls report to Ayinke House as recruitment has commenced fully. Save a life today. Best of luck.

Gboza says:
Anyone who truly knows the dirty practices going on the health sector will agree with me that sacking these doctors is indeed a welcomed action.
They should now concentrate on their private hospitals and consultancy services to other private hospitals. This has been their major business after all.

Only in Nigeria can this happen. Sack them? Can you imagine. Mchewwwwwwwwwww!

These doctors appear to put thier personal materialistic desires first before that of peoples lives which they swore an oath to care for.

Considering the number of helpless patients who have lost thier lives due to their incessant strikes, I commend Fashola on thier sack. Baba Fash, job weldone, let doctors who are willing to work take over, abeg.

Everyday Lagos doctors go on strike and thousands of patients die on thier sick beds. If u dont like d job resign and look 4 another job. Its not by force! There are other means of dialogue other than striking and allowing innocent citizens die. So if we ask our employers to review your terms of employment and they refuse, we go on strike abi? That means that at some point all arms of the economy will be on strike and d nation will be grounded.

Lagos doctors, since i was a child, u people have been striking and many patients have died for no cause, so i support Fashola. Baba Fash pls throw the jobs open to our young doctors out there.

Severally, i see pregnant women screaming in pains of labour because they need a doctor 4 a ceserean section but u DOCTORS will refuse to help bcos u re on STRIKE, and the women die with thier child if theydont get quick help at private clinics. Who una be sef? Abeg, all of u should get the hell out!

After all said and done, LIVES come first, but 4 u Lagos Doctors ur personal gains come first. Why?

I've never practiced medicine in Nigeria, but it's obvious why doctors from Nigeria are running to othe countries, even Ghana to practice. Sometimes the way some people think rally baffles me. The person that called doctors theivies in with coat are u for real, so u want to someone who is over worked and underpaid with less than inadequate equipment to be in charge of your life abi, well you get what you deserve, do you really believe it's the doctors that imposed the pay before service policy in Nigerian govt hospitals, should ur govt be working for you, but dumbass, so shortsighted, blame the person that is trying to help u while the person that should really be helping you is throwing parties with your money and sends his family abroad for simply medical check up. I have families in Nigeria and for their sake I hope Nigerian govt get their act together on health issues, people like u on the other hand well I guess since u prefer it that way, u should keep going to chemists for ur weekly check up. Ignorant fool!

Anonymous said...

Ekochic, also commend Fashola of flying his family abroad and throwing parties with ur money while u get a less mediocre healthcare... Talk about misplaced priority. No one ever sacks healthcare professional, u discuss with them, come to an agreement, did u ever imagine if u were in an emergency while ur emperor (like someone else called him here) sacked the doctors, who would u blame? Come to America and see the inflow of talented physicians from Nigeria, talk about resource depletion! God help Nigeria and grant Nigeria leaders with direction!

Its is bcos you are in america and do not know d number of people that die as a result of their unending strikes. My point is embrace other means of dialogue. Leaving people to die for no reason is not right for me at all, its totaly unacceptable.

Nigerian govt workers just dnt care whose ox is gored. My dear, in america where u leave, is life not a priority? Do medical professionals leave people to die cos they have poor welfare? the answer is no! Fashola is may be wrong by not reaching an agreement with them and by not fully equipping the hospitals but must theey always use strike as thier fighting tool? Meanwhile when govt give contrats to refurbish these hospitals, thier union leaders embezzle d funds and still go on strike.

I drove past law scool VI yesterday and i saw an elderly man lying on d road wit blood oozing outta his body, i quickly made it to d junction and informed d police men there and they just sat there eating ground nuts. Thats d attitude of d average govt employee in Nigeria. Thats d same attitudes these docotors have, i am sorry bt its true

I agree doctors need better working conditions, but must they go pn strike? My friend, wen u come back from america, try and visit the lagos island maternity when these doctors re on strike and see how pregnant women die with thier babies. Is it right?

I am not a Lagos doctor, but where I work, I have not gone on leave for 5years because of the patients. No time to see my parents, sibblings, attend burial of friends and relatives and weddings of close friends. I ve lost many friends who think that I'm only pretending to be busy meanwhile I see patients every other day that can only be equated to church session. Many people cannot sit near a HIV positive patient, but these are the people I put hands in their blood everyday during surgery, and their blood splash into my eye, mouth, face and I endure because I won't abandon them to die, I risk my own life and my family's life everyday to care for others. What I get as hazard allowance monthly is only N5000 !! If I ask my employer to keep an agreement to help me feed my family, is that too much to ask? Dr. FA Ogundele.
Share in solidarity with Lagos Doctors.

I marvel at the level of ignorance in my country.
I guess some people only use their internet to check this blog, perphaps they dont even know how to browse important information.
Do some research b4 commenting on important issues on a SOCIAL PLATFORM

SACK THEM! SACK THEM! some people keep screaming.
Please put sentiments aside and think deep IS IT REALLY SENSIBLE TO SACK THEM???
In developed countries like UK and US doctors are the Highest paid.
Have u ever thought WHY???
Why will they pay doctors so much, is it that they have money 2 waste or they are not as ignorance as some of the LEADERS in Nigeria.

One of the many reasons doctors are paid so much is because they want them to be happy and put in their best,
ie to be less worried about paying bill so that they can concentrate on their jobs.
A mistake made by a banker is repayable (Money)
By a Carpenter, the wood can be replace
By a blogger- he can retype
By a Lawyer - Appeal Court

But by a DOCTOR-- PERMANENT DEFORMITY / DEATH!

Lagos Doctor work more than their collegues in other states yet they are the least paid.

Dont being ignorant, If your leaders are, you dont have to too. Pls for the sack of our Children n the future of the country.

It is not ethical for doctors to strike period. This includes teachers and the police force! I don't care what the underlying issues are. This should be written into the constitution. Some professions are beyond pay or employment terms. The ultimate responsibility is to your patient - for doctors, the security of a country- police and students - teachers.

See bullying and threats..how can 9ja ever move forward..seeing some here take the side of the Govt..all the taxes that goes into Tinubu's pocket nko??
Some talk like Doctors should work for free..why don't you??..even Linda gets paid..its like any other skilled job..u learn the trade and get paid..its not like touching someone and u suddenly healed..cmon now..
I understand people have lost their lives..but think about it..if the Govt hadn't stolen the money allocated for a first class health service and adequate pay..would we have ever been in this situation...every bad thing in 9ja you can trace back to those monsters in power from yahoo yahoo..runz..escalating armed robberies...kidnappings..uni cultism..think about this and see where the root of all this evil emanates from..
The Govt is your enemy not Doctors..the sooner some get this and stop dancing when given 5k and cheap Ankara the sooner the Govt would know they here to serve the people!!

All these people condenming d Doctors shd rememba that they have families and responsibilities to take care of. where do u want them to get d N250k Lagos State University imposed on students????? i am saying this b/c i was a victim of such situation. my parents were teachers. my dad was a friend of my school principal. Each time teachers had not been paid, he knew, yet, he didnt not consider that wen he comes to d class to punish those that had not paid school fees. first of all, he will flog us for not paying school fees on time (meanwhile, my dad has not been paid my the govt), make us carry our lockers on our heads and escort us to the school gate. how do u explain that.

Many of these doctors you guys r supporting, run their own private practice and charge people neck breaking fees before they even commence treatment. We live in lagos. We know what lagos doctors do. We see how they take their hourly leave from the government hospitals to quickly make their rounds at their private establishments. We see how they disrespect and humiliate their patients. We see how they pay green horn doctors peanuts in their private establishments. We see how they charge patients fees and 'pocket' it. Especially when they successfully charge the patient based on his/her ignorance on the actual amount to be paid. We see how they strike whenever they feel they need a vacation and allow people die. We see it all. So word of advice, if you don't live in naija or lagos, or don't use the government hospitals.....I suggest you do what I call "siddon look"....respect is reciprocal...they can't be treating their patients like Roaches here and expect the patients support when the govt sets their asses on fire.

Ekochic, you should really talk less with sentiment and do research before you utter anymore words. How can you only use ur TV for entertainment purposes and your internet for Linda's blog and shopping and expect to be informed on what is going on in your own country. Yes I do not live in Nigeria but I think I know a little more about this issue than you do (clearly). Do you know how long this disagreement has been going on? You mentioned people that died during the doctors strike, so it's ok for emperor Fash to hold doctors and their family hostage with public sentiments abi. This did not start today as a matter of fact in all strikes, not all hospitals go on strike at ones. Yes there are funding that are obviously embezzles but this is all due to improper regulations. My pastor (Pastor Folahun) always says only, a fool keeps doing the same thing and expecting different result. In America as u mentioned the reason why physicians. never and will probably never go on strike, is because their needs are met and in turn they are held to a much high standards. My dear you cannot expect you chicken to give you a cow, its just not possible, so how then do you expect you doctors to keep performing miracles when they are not God? At least finally a conversation is going on about this, it took all these years and a visionless governor and a dumbass move to get communication flowing, mission accomplished. Govt, in Nigeria do bullshit and get away with it because there is always going to be a fool that will believe and back them, even if it means them giving up N1000... I will live those of you that support thy emperor with these words. Since you believe the doctors are heartless for going on strike, My people say you should not fight with a madman bcos at the end, people will not be able to tell which one of you is mad, so with Fashola sacked all doctors, who between Emperor Fash and Lagos State physicians is the heartless one? Think my people, think before you sell your own birth right out of ignorance!

Anon 12:53, pls I plead with you, do your research and stop talking like a child. Pls how many doctors were fired and how many private clinics are there in Lagos? The math is necessary for you to comprehend the rest of my jargon. Most of the doctors with private clinics, are the one that make N800k while majority of the doctors make N175k, think about it, how can 2 people be doing the same job one earns N175K while the other earn N800k for the same job? Sweety is called lack of regulation, improper compensation. Imagine you are the spouse of a physician and this is your reality, I bet your opinion will quickly change.
I have a solution, all you that think Emperor Fash (I love that name, lol) is right, I agree with you, now never, ever go to the hospital for any reason, make sure your healthcare needs are met by the local chemist, while the rest of you with human brain abeg fight for whats right cause it could be you tomorrow!
